Our 1st Big Weekend of the Year!
Are you ready for the official beginning of the 2010 Four Peaks Brewing Company Season of Fun? You better be because it begins today (Wednesday) with our first Cheese Puff Day of the year... as we speak! Come in for that time honored classic right now! Sinfully delicious, our monthly Cheese Puff Day has become just as popular as Hopsquatch Appreciation Day (the 1st of every month in case you forgot!). Make sure you stop in early because when they're gone, they're gone until February!
Alright, now that you've made your monthly Cheese Puff pilgrimage, what do you do with the rest of your evening? Why not stop by the Tempe Improv for their "Stage Time At The Improv" at 7:30 pm tonight? This is one show
for true comedy fans with special guest appearances by huge named
comedians at each and every show all mixed with the best local and touring
comics around. You never know who will show up! Four Peaks is proud to sponsor this event and the Improv will be offering specials all night long on Four Peaks beers. Tickets are $10 at the door or, since you're already at Four Peaks for Cheese Puff Day, pick up your complimentary passes from us (located right where you pick up your weekly issue of the Phoenix New Times!). Don't say we've never given you anything!
I've heard some people talking about a football game or 2 going on this weekend but for the life of me I couldn't find a thing about it on the internet! I'll just assume they are telling me the truth. These sources also inform me that the ramifications of 'said' games could lead to certain teams heading to a "Supreme Bowl", or something to that effect. More on that in the Grill & Tap Dispatch.
Bourbon Barrel Kilt Lifter. The name is, literally, a sentence unto itself. The rumors that have been whispered throughout the bar and surfacing on our Facebook page (now who would be doing THAT?) are indeed true. On Monday, January 18th we will be tapping a single keg of our Barrel-aged Kilt Lifter at our Tempe location! Quantities are extremely limited so get here early!
All of us at Four Peaks Brewing Company are proud to announce that we raised $22,000 for the ARC of Tempe at our 5th Annual Golf Classic!. All the totals have finally been tallied and we couldn't be happier at the amount we collected! Check out the van they were able to purchase thanks to your your donated time and participation! To learn more about the ARC of Tempe and/or to volunteer to help, please visit their website by clicking HERE.
Everything is finally back to normal after a rather long (we're not complaining!) holiday season here. The Brewer's are back and better than ever as they get you caught up to speed on what's going on back in the nerve center we call the brew floor, G&T Mike is also back and ready share more "can" photography as well as his unique perspective on things. As for myself, I can't wait to get into what's going on this week... so much so that, in fact, I guess I already told you! Oh well check the Parting Words" section for more! At any rate, I think Peter Griffin from "Family Guy" said it best:
"Lois, everyone has their sanctuary. The Catholics have churches, fat people have Wisconsin, and I have the Pawtucket Brewery."

The Grill & Tap Dispatch
by Michael Kruchko
While much of the country is in a deep freeze, we find
ourselves stuck in what can only be called a constant version of fall. The month of January brings so much for us to
look forward to, but things are a little different this year.
My Patriots were "one & done" in the
playoffs and it is now obvious that the glory years are behind us. This is
kind of strange on many different levels.
As we find 2010 already filled with change, can we dare say that this is
in fact the glory days of the Arizona Cardinals? Even though they just went to the Super Bowl last season it's still strange to
write things like that. From what we're
heard this may be the last year for Kurt Warner, but if we've learned anything from Brett Favre it's that you can never be too sure about those things! It's no secret that the Four Peaks Brewing Co. is
the home for Minnesota Vikings football and this Sunday will yet be another
chapter in the year of change...at least in the NFL. Although these Vikings have more or less
steamrolled the competition this year, they find themselves somewhat backing in (ed. note: huh?)
and facing a Dallas squad that is
hitting on all cylinders after winning their first playoff game in 13 years! So make sure to hit either Peaks location
this weekend for what will promise to be entertaining playoff football to say
the least. I would give some
predictions, but I don't want to touch the Cards/Saints game and I want to keep my
job when it comes to the Vikes! As for
the AFC...who cares; it's all crap to me with no Pats!
This is also the month when a bevy of events start rolling
in to Dispatch land. We'll be kicking it
off with everyone's favorite exotic car auction,Barrett Jackson, on the 18th. If you have never attended this event, we
assure you that you will have a time like no other. Just as you do not have to
be an actual golf fan to enjoy the Phoenix Open, the same goes for Barrett Jackson, and
just in case I am wrong you can always land yourself at the Grill & Tap and have a
few Hopsquatch Barleywines (which is always on tap!).
I mentioned the Phoenix Open before and, if you are super
observant, I didn't refer to it as the FBR Open.
If you are not yet aware, the event will now be called the Waste
Management Phoenix Open (that is not a joke) and will be moved to the
end of February this year to work around the Winter Olympics. There's still plenty of time for that so
we'll revisit the Grill & Tap's plans for those festivities at a later time!
With the Holidays fully behind us, most of us are back in a
somewhat normal routine. Also back is
the "Show Us Your Cans" promotion. It's been a while,
so in case you need a refresher on how to get free beer click here. We've got loads of new entries so just
be patient for the upcoming reveals.
This week we have a second entry from Tom Roche. He took some great photos that could easily
be used as a new Four Peaks
logo, and with the thought of the East Coast freezing nothing says
a little desert heat like saguaro cactus. Thanks
for the pics Tom...we'll make sure to pass them on to friends not as
fortunate as us when it comes to temperature.

Hope you have a great week and we'll see you all next time! Make sure
to stock up on your favorite Four Peaks beer if you plan on hosting any type of playoff party
or BBQ this weekend. I'm also available
for public appearances, so don't hesitate to send the invites my
way! Before I leave, I want to take a
moment and thank Mr. Dave Tanzi for his amazing work on the Dispatch in my
absence...without feeding his massive ego; he always delivers a job well done!
You can contact us in
Scottsdale at 480-991-1795 or at Scottsdale@fourpeaks.com

The Brewers Blog
Contrary to popular belief we are not slackers. We are merely confounded by technology.
We did write a blog last week on our brand new computer; it was on our New Year's predictions. We
just didn't know how to send it to our beloved Editor (turns out you
have to actually register Outlook to send anything directly from Word. Who knew?). We'll take this as a sign that it is not our station in life to make predictions on the future, and move on.
--------
It was mentioned in another forum (Facebook maybe) that we were having "much internal grumblings" about the production of our next seasonal, the "Double Knot" Double IPA.
Let us explain. We are not grumbling about the beer, the recipe, the
brew day, the amount of hops (which is obscene; 7.5 pounds per barrel!)
or anything like that. We've just always taken pride in the fact that
we make flavorful, well balanced beers that can be consumed in quantity without having to have tastebud replacement surgery. There are just certain beers that we never really wanted to emulate. You know the beers; 120 IBUs, 13% alcohol, and can double as either a torture device or a floor stripper.
No, we were grumbling about being seen as "selling out" to these headline grabbing beers. Like we need the publicity that comes with giving birth to a 20 pound baby or finishing three La Tolteca "Super-Burritos" (don't try this... Seriously). But when it comes down to it these beers are challenging, and not just to drink. They test the limits of your brewhouse,
they test the limits of your skill in recipe formulation, and they
certainly test the depth of your wallet when it comes to the hop
usage. We love a challenge. So, the decision was made out of
professional curiosity (and a love of hops), that we would throw
caution to the wind and make a DIPA with the stipulation that it will neither make you confess to horrible crimes nor peel the lacquer from your hardwood.
But trust us, it'll be big.
Stay tuned next week when we chronicle the installation of three of the biggest fermenters in the state. One of which could produce more beer than most brewpubs do in a year. Should be fun.

A Few Parting Words...
As mentioned last week, The 10th Annual Arizona Strong Beer Festival is coming up on the 13th of February! There seems to be a few problems on the Arizona Brewers Guild website so feel free to get your tickets to this event HERE. I have been informed that in addition to the same fun and frivolity you've come to expect from previous years, there will also be some new surprises. Make sure you get your tickets today. I will keep you posted in the upcoming weeks for the latest developments...as...they...occur! I would also like to welcome back all of our friends from that learning institution just down the road a piece, ASU. Hope you enjoyed your time off because it's back to school this Tuesday! Don't forget to make the most of your remaining 5 days of freedom by stopping in everyday to have a beer! The clock is ticking and your free time is running out! If any readers out there have any questions, comments, nuggets of wisdom, ideas, or concerns directed at this publication or the Brewery in general, please feel free to email the Brewsletter at pubrelations@fourpeaks.com. We always enjoy the input of our loyal followers and look forward to hearing from you! Click on either logo below to continue your journey with Four Peaks through the hazards of cyberspace! Cheers!
